What is greener than recycling?

One of our favorite terms is “Upcycling”: the process by which waste materials are used to provide new, usually better, products like turning some discarded silverware into a wind chime. Earth Alley is all about that (thus the “alley” in our names gives homage to all the great finds we’ve rescued from alleys in the places we have called home - whether it was Albuquerque, Seattle or here in Baltimore.

We are so proud to say that we have saved over 5000 shopping bags from going to the landfill since opening in September, 2007. How? By just asking customers to use an existing bag, take a recycled bag or not taking a bag at all. Not bad for a small green store.
